New Drawings
In my narrative drawings wild creatures invaded the domestic arena and humans were missing, leaving animals, often dangerous, in their wake. Recently, I’ve begun to include direct references to humans in drawings with the aim of creating a space that holds multiple species in common interest. The sources for these drawings are my own black and white photos, taken in the 1970s and 80s. But, because the eye of the camera sees no more than one single frozen moment in time, I am able to meld new elements into these past situations by way of drawing. In this way, they can say more, be more mythic, and witness what is out in the world at the same time as they delve into the interior mind; its memories, myths, and dreams. The act of drawing records the movements of the hand, the skipping of the pen across the textured page, which adds a living vibration to the drawings.
